Anna Sangese

1938 - 2024

OBITUARY

Anna entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 23, 2024.  She was 85 years old. Anna was born on July 1, 1938, in Naples, Italy, as one of seven children.  She was married to the late August Sangese, who predeceased her on February 13, 2017.

Anna and her husband moved from Italy to New York in 1958.  They lived in Queens for about 30 years until they moved to New Hyde Park in the early 90s and have lived there since.

For those that had the chance to meet Anna, it became immediately evident that she was a special person in so many ways.  She exhibited a warmth and care for others that was unquestionably unique and permeated everything she did.  She had a strong passion for cooking and everyone who knew Anna knew it since she cooked meals for literally everyone, including, her family, neighbors, doctors, mailmen, landscapers, handymen, plumbers and, well, you get the gist.  She was basically everyone’s favorite grandma.  Wherever she is now, you could rest assured that she already took over primary kitchen duties.

While cooking was Anna’s strong passion, her main passion was her love for animals.  And, as is the case with her cooking, she made that passion clear to all the living creatures around her, including the many stray cats and dogs she took care of, as well as all the ducks at the local pond that would flock to her when she arrived for daily feedings and the birds and squirrels that intentionally took up permanent residence in the trees and bushes surrounding her home. If you were able to ask them, it is guaranteed they considered a real life version of Doctor Dolittle.

Anna is survived by one brother and sister that reside in Naples, Italy, her daughter, Jeanette Pereira, and her two sons, Joseph Sangese and August Sangese Jr, as well as seven granddaughters and six great grandchildren.
