OBITUARY
Anne Anzai (nee Recco) 1941-2025. With heavy hearts we grieve the tragic loss of Anne Anzai who was born August 10, 1941 in Ridgewood NY and passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 3, 2025 at North Shore University Hospital Manhasset NY. Anne Lived everyday of her life to the fullest. Her selfless lifestyle and gravitational personality are exemplified through the unbreakable relationships she formed with those around her. Anne was known for her strength and work ethic while working in the family produce business after school growing up and later in the family importing business with her husband. She later worked in the computer industry where she enjoyed learning about the latest technology. She always remained goal oriented even went back to college and completed computer and math classes as recently as 8 years ago at the age of 75.
She was adept in the culinary arts specializing in Italian food and baking. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, making baby blankets for indigent patients and crocheting blankets for family and friends. She especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sporting events and was very involved in their lives.
She was a blackbelt in Judo and through this sport she was able to meet the love of her life Takeshi Anzai who was graduate student at Columbia University and member of the Judo club of NY. They met in 1963 and married in July 1964 and departed to live in Tokyo shortly after. As an American woman living in Tokyo, she taught English and formed many relationships with family and friends there while learning to cook Japanese dishes. She later returned to NY to begin her family with the birth of her daughters Helene and Laura. Raising her Family in New Hyde Park, she formed many strong relationships and was a huge part of the community being involved with school PTA and coaching in the soccer club.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents Angelo Recco (1903-1989) and Mary Recco (1908-1997) as well as her sisters Martha, Helene, and Lois. She is survived by her husband of 60 years Takeshi Anzai, her daughters Laura Pearce and husband Robert, Helene Tarter and husband Robert, her grandchildren Robert and Andrew Pearce of Wayne, NJ, and Thomas, Stephen and Christopher Tarter of North Carolina. And her siblings Mary Santi of Georgetown, TX, Rose Esposito of Brooklyn, NY, Angelo Recco and Janice Recco Louis of Clermont, FL.
