OBITUARY
Giuseppe “Jack” Acquista
Giuseppe Gioachino Acquista was born in Castrofilippo, Sicily, in 1946 to Calogero Acquista and Marianna (Chiarelli) Acquista. He was the sixth born of seven children.
Jack, as he is known to family and friends, emigrated to the U.S. at age 18 with his beloved younger sister Dina, following the rest of their family who had moved to America a few years earlier. The family settled in Astoria, New York, where they spent many wonderful years before moving to Long Island.
Jack will always be known for his generous spirit that was unmatched by his heart of gold. He never hesitated to lend a helping hand to family and friends whether it was to fix a car, help with their boiler or pick up a friend whose car broke down. He was extremely loyal and would give the shirt off his back to help someone in need. He would jump up to help at a moments notice and never would hesitate.
Jack was also adventurous. You could often find him in upstate New York, hunting with his beagles. He was also a thrill seeker - racing rebuilt cars like his 1967 Dodge Coronet.
As an immigrant, Jack held strong to his Italian roots, never forgetting his hometown and the traditions and hard work of his family. He was a proud member of the St. Antonio Abate Fraternal Society of Castrofilippo in Astoria where he spent many nights and made life long friendships.
Jack was a devoted uncle and brother, especially to his cherished older sister Carmela. He leaves behind a legacy of a love for dogs, hunting and a close-knit family that never left his side as he took his final breath, making sure he was comfortable at his home, loved and at ease.
A life well lived is what his family will remember of Jack. To his youngest relatives: Christian, Arianna, Lucas, Cecelia, Eva, Anthony and Fiona he was simply “Parino.” Their great-uncle who always made the time to come to their important life events. His spirit will live on with them, along with his loyal and loving beagles, Princess, Penny and Tatcha.
And when we hear the revving of his Dodge Coronet, we will know he is happy and carefree.
