OBITUARY

John “Jack” Donohue


6/19/32 – 1/8/23


Jack was born in Loughill, Balla, County Mayo, Ireland


Jack Donohue, 90, of Oakland Gardens passed away peacefully on January 8, 2023. He is predeceased by his parents, Anne (Conlon) and John Donohue. His sisters, Mary Ellen and Bridie Donohue and Nancy Cunneen and his brothers, Paddy and Tom Donohue. He is also predeceased by loved brothers and sisters in law and nieces and nephews. Jack is survived by his loving wife, Nellie of 67 years and his sisters and brothers, Margaret, Kathleen, David, Celia, Mary, Stephen (Eirlys), and Evelyn (Fred). Jack will be sorely missed by his 10 children, Patrick (Noreen), Tommy (Peg), Danny, Chris (Marytheresa), Anne (Dick), Sean, Mary Ellen (David), Peter (Esteban), Gerald (Norma), and Deirdre (Pete). Jack is adored by his grandchildren, Sean, Brian, John, Ellen, Kevin, Matthew, Patrick, Jack, Brendan, Deirdre, Teresa, Megan, Katelyn, Bernadette, Katherine, Ashlee, Bridget, Jocelyn, Nolan, and Kaylan, along with 14 great-grandchildren.


He grew up in a loving family with his parents, John and Anne, and his 11 brothers and sisters. He left his home and Ireland and moved to

England in 1949, where he met his wife, Nellie. They married in 1955. They then immigrated to America in 1959, with their three children. He

became a proud member of the FDNY in 1964. He served the City of New York for 25 years, until retiring in 1989.


Family and friends were very important to Jack. He loved is card games at the Irish-American Center, and his many friends in Anna Maria Island, Florida. He always enjoyed get togethers with his children, their spouses, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His brothers and sisters were always an important part of his life.


Jack will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten.
