Joseph Martello

1929 - 2025

OBITUARY

Joseph Martello passed away peacefully on January 24, 2025 at the age of 95. He was the loving husband of the late Carole (nee Keenan), loving father of Laura and Diane and father-in-law of Mark and Joel, and loving grandfather of Brooke and Tommy. He was the devoted brother of the late Anthony Martello.


Joe was born on the lower east side of Manhattan on March 15, 1929. He moved to Astoria, Queens and lived there until marriage. He graduated from Flushing High School in 1948 and played on the varsity football and basketball teams. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in December 1950 and was assigned to the 78th Armored Field Artillery Battalion (C Battery) and 2nd Armored Division. He was stationed in Germany, about 50 miles from Frankfurt and was honorably discharged in December 1952. He attended New York University under the GI bill and graduated in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration.


Joe met Carole at the Eastover Resort in Massachusetts and they married on July 19, 1969. They lived in an apartment in Flushing, Queens before moving to a house in New Hyde Park. They had two beautiful daughters, Laura and Diane. They were together for 47 years before Carole’s passing in 2016.


Joe worked in the insurance industry after receiving his degree and worked full-time until he retired in 1996. He continued to work part-time until 2018 and spent time volunteering at St. Agnes Soup Kitchen in Manhattan. He was a member of the American Legion and Knights of Columbus.
