OBITUARY
We appreciate you…
Lois Anne (Miller) Daly of Mineola, died peacefully at home on June 25th following a courageous struggle with cancer. She was grateful to be surrounded by her family and many loved ones during her last days.
Lois was born in Floral Park and lived most of her life in New Hyde Park before relocating to Birchwood Court in Mineola in 2013. She attended Dominican Commercial High School in Queens, NY before embarking on her first of numerous career adventures at The Brown Agency. She married Charles W. Daly in 1963, raised three children, Debbie, David and Daniel, and was a doting grandmother to her eight grandchildren.
Lois loved to fly, and with her brother Bob joined Civil Air Patrol when she was in high school. Lois and Bob flew out of Stewart Air Force Base, which helped to prepare her for a long career in travel – Lois was a flight attendant, worked at the TWA ticket counter in Manhattan and eventually managed a travel agency. She was a versatile and dedicated employee, working in various bookkeeping and administrative roles throughout her working life.
Lois loved spending time at the beach, travelling, her garden, and once she moved to the apartment, visiting botanical gardens. Her passion for travel continued throughout her retirement, and she, husband Chuck and dearest friend Ruth took many exciting trips, including a few memorable ones with brother Jim and sister-in-law Chris. She enjoyed regular card game events with her Birchwood friends and developed many special friendships with the amazing people who lived in her neighborhood.
She was a wonderful friend, an expert at building relationships and helping others. Lois was willing and eager to help anyone who needed her, whether it be with a drive to the airport or help to get to an appointment. She was always happy to drive anywhere and tackled the long drive to visit Debbie and her grandchildren in Canada many times.
Lois faced numerous personal and physical challenges gracefully with courage. Throughout this final illness, she maintained her trademark optimism and fortitude. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, and the friends she treasured.
Lois is preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Estelle Miller, husband Charles Daly, and her brothers Robert and James Miller. She is survived by her children Debbie, David (Theresa) and Daniel, her grandchildren Charles, Timothy (Kristen) and Emily (Cody) Driver, Devin Weeks, Caitlin, Colleen, Ciara and Carys Daly. She is also greatly missed by her sister-in-law Christine Miller, her dear friends Ruth Koerner and Virginia (Ginny) Miller and her many loving family members and friends.
As Lois was fond of quoting from a favorite movie, “Everything will be all right in the end. If it’s not all right, then it’s not yet the end.”
We will see you at the end, Lo.
