Margaret A. Jones

1932 - 2021

OBITUARY

Margaret Ann Jones (Marge) was the 2nd child in a family of seven children. Her father Thomas Fitzgerald was born in Dublin, Ireland and immigrated to Brooklyn, where he met and married Margaret Weyman. Their seven children were named Emily, Margaret, Thomas, William, Gerald, Edna, and Eileen. Margaret was born on September 23, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY. She completed high school in 1950 and went directly into the Registered Nurse Program at Kings County Hospital. She graduated in 1952 and served in her profession for over fifty years. In addition to serving in private duty, an orthopedist’s office, and as the nurse coordinator at a HIP health center, she worked in several hospitals including Coney Island Hospital, Franklin General Hospital and LaGuardia Hospital. However, she found her greatest calling in the area of oncological nursing at North Shore University Hospital during the last twenty years of her career. For Marge her work as a nurse was an expression of her deep Catholic faith and her belief that in serving others with her career, she was serving our Lord and the Blessed Mother. Marge was an amazing person in so many ways. She overcame so much and helped so many. She loved to play cards and games with family and friends. She loved to travel. She had an artistic side that she expressed in pottery and flower arranging and most of all in keeping a lovely and welcoming home. There are so many joyful stories of her life because anyone who knew her felt her selflessness, peace and joy. She deeply loved her husband of 27 years, Harold Walter Jones (April 1, 1930 – March 28, 1987), and adored and nurtured her three children and three grandchildren with a selfless, unconditional love for each and a special ability to know what each one needed from her. Marge lived a productive, dignified life guided by faith, gratitude, and, most of all, love, love of God, of her family, of her friends, colleagues, patients, neighbors and love of the beauty of this world. She was an angel who came to this Earth for a while for those who had the privilege of sharing this journey. Her parents, sisters and brothers, many dear friends, her husband and her son, Harold Walter Jones, await her in heaven. Her daughters Catherine Mary Sokol and Kimberly Marie Jones, son-in-law Paul Victor Sokol, and grandchildren Margaret Mary Sokol, James Victor Sokol, and Michael Paul Sokol mourn her passing, grateful for the time allowed and with the belief that she has returned to the Lord and is at peace.
