Patricia McKeegan

1934 - 2024

OBITUARY

Patricia Joan (McCarthy) McKeegan

1934 - 2024

Patricia Joan (McCarthy) McKeegan, 90, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. Pat was reunited with her loved ones in Heaven on New Year’s Eve, where she was welcomed by her loving husband of 48 years, Daniel McKeegan (deceased 2005) and her son Michael (deceased 2019), as well as her brother Brian, her parents Jean and Dennis McCarthy, her daughter-in-law Kathy, many extended family members, and a whole lot of special friends. We have no doubt they had a fabulous New Year’s Eve celebration, talking, singing, laughing and dancing, with Pat once again in the fullness of good health and happiness.

Pat is survived by her children Kevin (Grace) McKeegan, Eileen (Trip) Ruvane, Timothy McKeegan, Kerry McKeegan, and Joseph (Gail) McKeegan; her sister, Jane Rung; her 12 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Pat grew up in Brooklyn, where (as she liked to joke) she met the love of her life when he was a working man and she was just a babe. Her future husband, Danny, used to deliver newspapers to her house when he was 7 and she was 1. They eventually grew up and fell in love, sharing a passion for family, adventure, and laughter. Pat was an excellent homemaker, but also very good with her hands. Together, she and Danny outfitted a van, and drove their children (ages 2 to 11) to California and back, sleeping inside the van, cooking on a camp stove, and seeing the great sights of our country, an amazing feat that was only exceeded that year by the Apollo Moon landing and the Miracle Mets. Pat and her family would go on to take many trips in the legendary “Red Baron.”

In addition to her love of family, Pat had many great friends, including life-long companions from “the block” in Queens Village and the fabulous friends she made while living in New Hyde Park for the last 50 years. During her long and wonderful life, she loved many, many things, including dancing, crafts, cooking, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, cards and games of all types, rooting for the underdogs (Mets and Jets), being the loudest fan at her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events, embarrassing her teenage children, talking to her friends, and above all else, her family.

It is impossible to adequately sum up the good life of a great woman who spent 90 years making this Earth a better place. Pat was the awe-inspiring matriarch of the McKeegan family. She was always ready with the perfect hug, knew just the right way to heal a hurting heart, and was generous with wise life advice. She was full of life and love and laughter. She will be deeply missed but kept alive in our hearts forever.

The best way to remember Pat is by loving your family, cherishing your friends, and getting outside to play. In lieu of flowers, please feel free to make a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society, The Alzheimer’s Foundation, or a favorite charity of your choice.
