Rosamma Chittilapply

1953 - 2025

OBITUARY

Psalm 23: 1-4.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.

Even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Rosamma Chittilapply, 71, of Elmont, NY, passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025. Born on December 11, 1953, in Koratty, Kerala, Rosamma was the fourth of six children born to Anthony Chittilapilly and Mariamma Anthony. Inspired by her older sister, Mariamma, she pursued a career in nursing, dedicating herself to caring for others with boundless warmth and compassion. Her professional journey took her across the Middle East, where she worked tirelessly before relocating to the United States in 2001. Even after retiring from Queens Children’s Psychiatric Center in 2019, her passion for learning and her deep faith led her to complete a Bachelor's degree in Theology, further strengthening her commitment to her beliefs. Rosamma was also a talented lyricist, composing several Christian devotional songs that continue to inspire and uplift others.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Mathews Thekkummattathil; daughters Nisha Todd (Patrick) and Nimmy Joseph (Sujil); son Nobel Mathews; and two grandchildren, Reuben and Asha Daniel, whom she adored. Rosamma also leaves behind two brothers, Thomas Chittilapilly (Rani) and Jose Chittilapilly (Mini), as well as her sister Alphonsa Paul (Paul), along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends across the globe. She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters, the late Annie Joseph (Joseph) and Mariamma Parackel (David).

Rosamma's life was a living testament to love, strength, and selfless service. She faced every challenge with unwavering courage and resilience, and even in the most difficult times, she continued to serve others, preparing delicious meals for her family and friends despite battling cancer. She will be remembered for her unshakeable faith, her vibrant spirit, and the warmth and kindness she so generously shared with all who knew her.

Her family takes solace in the knowledge that Rosamma is now at peace, resting in the eternal embrace of the Lord she cherished with all her heart.
